The two storey, 1500 square metre commercial development is located on reclaimed land adjacent to the Hope Island Marina on the Gold Coast. The reclaimed land presented difficult ground conditions, characterised by soft upper levels of soil and relatively large long term settlements. The building was architecturally designed to resemble a ship from its marina aspect. The structural form incorporated an eclectic mix of concrete, steel and timber to reinforce this appearance whilst meeting the demands of a difficult and restricted site.
Ground level boardwalks and upper level balconies were structured and configured in timber to resemble the decks of a ship. The structural form extended to suspended ground slabs which support portions of the 74 car park spaces within the complex.
