Bonacci Infrastructure delivered an alternative structural design for the Intermittently Decanted Aeration Lagoon (IDAL) and UV channel forming part of the Muswellbrook Recycle Water Treatment Works in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, Australia. The design was commissioned by the managing Contractor and executed as a “Design and Construct” package separate from the remaining “Construct Only” works.
The tank boasts an unjointed 70 x 40 metre post-tensioned floor slab which was poured and stressed in a single operation without any evidence of shrinkage cracking. Careful design enabled the structure to be entirely monolithic (free of control joints), which afforded significant improvements in constructability and offered real savings in terms of cost and schedule. The absence of control joints also greatly reduced long-term maintenance costs for the Muswellbrook Shire Council.
