Nerang River Rail Bridge Duplication

Bonacci Infrastructure was responsible for the detailed design and documentation of the rail bridge duplication over the Nerang River on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Client: Golding Contractors
Location: Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

Bonacci Infrastructure was responsible for the detailed design and documentation of the rail bridge duplication over the Nerang River. Careful planning, innovative design and comprehensive documentation enabled the project team to install a total of seven 25 metre bridge spans over water in a period of only 72 hours. The temporary works for the duplication were coordinated around the existing train line which remained operational throughout the course of construction.

The girder installation involved a twin travelling gantry with one edge supported on a steel runway beam that was launched (pulled) across the river. The other side of the gantry frame was supported by a fixed steel runway beam. The bridge alignment followed a horizontal curve which added further complexity to the project by requiring both runway beams to be detailed to accommodate the curve.
