The Pimpama Water Cycle Alliance (Pimpama Wastewater Treatment Plant) project was delivered as a “Competitive TOC Alliance”, the key design feature being the 96 x 48 x 6.7 metre high bioreactor tank. The tank was of monolithic post-tensioned construction; however, also made comprehensive use of the roof diaphragm (walkway) regime to optimise wall and floor thicknesses. As far as we are aware, this was the first tank in Australia to adopt such an approach.
The resulting design had a maximum wall thickness of only 400 millimetres and an average floor thickness of only 285 millimetres, with the monolithic construction methods affording significant improvements in terms of long-term maintenance and water tightness.
The $87 million project was delivered to the Gold Coast City Council.
